How a tank full of diesel cost me £422

Well its an easy mistake to make, according to the AA driver who attended, on average he attends to 16 people a day who’ve made the same mistake.

What mistake you ask . .  the mistake of forgetting you no longer drive a petrol fueled car and you fill your diesel tank with unleaded.

Yes that’s what I did Friday night on the way home, in total I spent £92 on Unleaded before I realised I should have been filling up with diesel.

I then spent 5-10 minutes screaming and shouting at my own stupidity on the station forecourt, anyone who saw me probably thought I was some sort of homicidal maniac, when I’d calmed down enough I went in and explained my situation to the attendant and begrudgingly handed over £92, I then rang the AA for help . .

After explaining the situation to them, they informed me that their help would cost me £200, so out came the credit card and again I paid up.

Luckily the AA man was only in Hale, so was with me in about in about 1/2 hr, after signing a few papers and pushing my car away from the pumps, he began the draining/pumping process, this is where the wait seemed to last a life time, slowly watching the meter on his extraction pump move from O ltrs to 89 ltrs is a very painful experience, especially when you know that you can’t have the fuel back and even if you could, you wouldn’t be able to use it for anything except maybe self-immolation, which I seriously considered (obviously joking) . .

Anyway 1hr 30mins later the tank was drained and it was then a case of adding a bottle of this magic stuff which I never got the name of that apparently helps prevent any damage once you refill with diesel, he also added 12ltrs of diesel for free (well £200) and then it was another load of paper signing and he was gone, though not before informing me that I needed to fill my tank again, however this time with diesel, this I duly did, at a further cost of £130 and apparently I’ve got to fill it to the top again once I reach the 1/2 full stage.

So £92 + £200 + £130 = £422

And that’s how a tank full of diesel cost me £422

Well at least my engines not knackered otherwise it would have cost me a lot lot more and some how I don’t think I’ll be doing it again

I’d would have been devastated if I’d fcuked up my new 7 Series BMW so soon after buying it
