Totting Up – Speeding Offences

Well I’ve now been up before the Magistrates with regards my being caught by a Speed Camera van in November and after about 20 minutes of explaining how sorry I was and ashamed at being before them, they read my letter regarding how losing my licence through disqualification would affect me, my partner and my employment.

After that they disappeared into a side room for about 15 minutes to discuss my case, all the while I’m sat there literally shitting bricks that I’m going to be disqualified, then they come out and tell me that due to my circumstances they are going to let me keep my licence, however they are going to endorse with 6 points which will take me up to 15 points, though 3 have expired so in effect I now have 12 points and that they will be fining me a total of £230.

They reminded me that should I appear before a Magistrate again in relation to a speeding offence I shall be banned immediately.

So it appears that I can keep driving, but must ensure I keep within all National Speed Limits, which I will endeavor to do, it’s going to be a long 24 months before I have the next 6 points removed from my licence, which will by then at least give me 1 get out of jail card (I’ll only have 6 points at that point).

With all of the above let me say to all of you out there, do not speed, it’s not worth anyone’s life just to get somewhere a little bit faster and until you get in the situation where you might lose your licence you really don’t think about how much you need those set of 2/4 wheels.

I’m a changed man, thank you legal system of Britain for giving me another chance.
