So there I was sat in my car having my before work ciggy, when suddenly heard a loud banging/cracking/popping, looked behind me to see a pawl (spelling) of smoke with red dancing about in it coming from a building to the side of our workplace.

Anyways goes to investigate and find a high voltage electrical cable has been cut through with and axe, axe is well burnt and there was no on around, but the water in the canal had been disturbed (possible culprit burnt and stumbling falls in canal)

Call United Utilities who owns the building then calls the police, Police arrive in force, 3 cars + Dog section, they have a looksee at the damage/scene, take a statement off me, then when I mention the disturbed water, call an under water team . . . as I’m typing this theres a helicopter overhead having a looksee as well.

3 Scenarios spring to mind as to what happened :

1. Silly kid with axe ?

2. Someone was after the copper in the cables (very silly as the cables marked live)

3. Terrorists decided to cut power cables to dirupt the manchester Grid (only saying as there was a something on the news a few weekes ago, recordings of supseted terrorists discussing disrupting power supplies and as another area of Manchester nr the trafford centres lost power as well, just springs to mind ) we still have power though
