Well the news at the moment seems to be filled with the leaked release of a cockpit video of a friendly fire incident in Iraq, involving a number of British Light Armoured veichles and a couple of American A-10 tankbuster, this video has been mentioned on numerous occasions during the course of an inquest that was investigating the deaths of 2 British soldiers killed during this FF Incident, seems the Americans we’re’nt to keen on releasing this sort of material into the public domain, afriad that the heads up display thats shown on the video would give to many secrets away to there supposed enemies . . . .
Heres the 1st part of the video of the attack
Heres the 2nd part of the video
After looking at the video myself, it does really seem like a honest but tragic mistake by 2 Pilots pumped up on war adrenaline who have had very little information to go on from there airbase controllers who assure them that there are no friendly’s in the area and that they got the go ahead to attack the column, which they do only to realise about 10 mins later that they’ve attacked friendly’s, in war things like this happen, theres always been FF incidents in all wars, its just now with the onset of more technology to record them and the fact was is covered more by the media then ever before these incidents are more widely reported and blown up into major stories, not that this isn’t a major stories in itself, it’s just the way the media are choosing to report it, it’s all about the video and it would seem nothing else, they presume that its hiding some dark secret that would shatter the world and all it holds is 2 Pilots trying to do there job and stay alive . . . what if those same pilots had ignored those veichles and not attacked them and they’d turned out to the enemy, who then shoot them down . . would we be mourning them or would we be calling on the US Govt to explain why they’d ignored the targets and why hadn’t they attacked them.
All these pilots did was what any Soldier does in war, rely on his own gut instinct and any intelligence provided to him by his superiors, in this case his superiors were wrong . . . so don’t blame the pilots there just doing there jobs . .
I dont agree with the war in Iraq or any war for that matter, but i don’t think we should be blaming the soldiers, they just follow orders like the rest of us . .
