Varenicline . . the Quitters little helper

After many attempts over the years to quit smoking by Nicotine Patche’s, Nicotine Gum, Cold Turkey and just recently the fake E-ciggs, I’ve now taken the step of visiting my Doctor and persuading him to prescribe me Varenicline, also known as Champix, which from everything I’ve heard is in effect the magic bullet that helps the weak among us finally quit the dreaded cravings for tobacco and nicotine.

To start me off, I’ve been prescribed 11 x 0.5 mg & 14 x 1 mg tablets, these are taken over a 2 week period and I’ve to decide a date that I’m going to stop smoking between day 8 and day 14 of the treatment, me being the supposed die-hard smoker that I am have chosen day 11 of the course, just 3 days shy of the first courses end.

After the 2 weeks have run their course, I will then be prescribed a follow on course of up to 3-4 weeks to help keep the pleasure/cravings away and then dependant on the outcome of that will decide on whether I continue on a course of treatment or they start reducing the course until finally I’m no longer taking Champix and no longer smoking.

Really hoping this time it works, as smoking is really starting to affect my life and how I want to enjoy my life, hopefully with the aid of Champix and what little will power I have when it comes to ciggies I might actually be able to quit this time, so fingers crossed for me please.

On top of the quitting smoking, I’m also attempting to lose some of my love handles, again this is something I keep trying to do, but due to a love of good food, I find it near impossible to do, but there’s no magic bullet for this one, it’s a case of sticking to healthy food and moderate intake.

Who know’s in a couple of months I might actually be a healthy living, slimmer looking version of me 🙂
