Blues back from North West Surgeons

The Blue Diva that is our Cane Corso is now back from her TPLO Surgery at North West Surgeons, and I’m happy to say everything went according to plan, they said she was a complete angel and didn’t play up at all during her stay with them.

She’s now sat in our front room looking a little sorry for herself, but its to be expected, she’s had major bone surgery and now has another metal plate and numerous screws in her leg that match the ones put in her other leg in 2010, so no going through Airport metal detectors for this girl.

The total cost of the operation was £3028.97 of which £2000 I should be able to claim back from Tesco’s Pet Insurance (or so they’ve told me, see earlier posts about Tesco Pet Insurance)

Just to give you an idea of why it cost so much, here’s some of the items/services we were charged for :

Theatre Fees: Class 4 : £315.56

Various Self-tapping Screws 3.5mm (sizes 22mm -38mm) : £10.70 EACH

Theatre Drape Pack (Sterile) :  £23.70

Comfortan (methadone) 10mg/ml injection : £6.67

Biogel Gloves : £3.38

Surgical Technician time £17.21 ph x (10hrs) : £172.10

In total there were 51 charges on the Invoice, but all worth it to have our girl walking properly again.

The next 3 weeks will be spent taking her out for 2 x 5 mins walk everyday on short lead, then another 3 weeks building this up to 2 x 15 mins walks a day, then eventually over the 3 weeks after that building it up to 30 min walks, by this time we will need to take her back to North West Surgeons for a checkup to see how the bones knitting together and to check the screws are holding the plate correctly.

At the moment we’ve got my mum staying to help with Blues recuperation, mum’s watching Blue through the day to make sure she doesn’t try to jump on any of the furniture or up at the windows when the post man visits.

I presently have the night-shift which involves me sleeping on the living room floor along with Blue to make sure she doesn’t hurt herself during the night and to let her out for her constitutional, got about 3-4 weeks of this, so just hoping my back can take the strain . . things we do for our dogs . .

So now its just a waiting game to see  how her recovery goes.
