Arma III : Wasteland Tips and Tricks No 5 – Missions

Un-armed Strider

Arma 3  Wasteland Missions. .  What do I need to complete them?

Now that you’ve got the basics of Wasteland you’ll want to start completing missions to get yourself and your group/team fully clothed up/weaponed up and if possible maybe get some Armour and a Helicopter for support.

Well before you start looking at the Map for missions to complete and start racing across the map to them, you may need to get a few things to help with completing the mission, so here’s where a little advice might help:

The “Geocache” Mission :

For this mission all you really need are your wits and a Quad.

Ideally if you have a Quad or can get a Quad use this to head for the Geocache, Quads can go a lot of places, a lot faster than Off-Roads/SUV’s/Hatchbacks and Trucks, they also tend to be a lot harder to get a hit on if you’re weaving all over the map while getting away.

So you’ve got your Quad and you’ve arrived at the Geocache, now I know it’s very tempting to have a look in the inventory of the cache, but don’t, just grab it and load it into your Quad and drive away as fast as you can, don’t stop until you’re at least 2k away from where you picked it up and make sure you’re in woodland cover, as you don’t want to be spotted rifling through your loot.

The general idea here is not to hang about especially as “Geocaches” tend to spawn randomly around the maps and a lot seem to spawn along the coast or on the peaks of hills, this can make grabbing them dangerous as they are out in the open, if your think or suspect that others are nearby when you get near to a Geocache, it might be best to hang back and see if anyone else approaches it, you can always have a go at picking them off after they’ve loaded the Geo or you might even get the chance to follow them.

Repaired Ammo Truck

Repaired Ammo Truck

The “Capture an Ammo Truck” Mission

For this mission you need only need a repair kit.

Repair Kits can be found in buildings in towns or bought from gun stores, can also be found at “Capture the Base” missions

The repair kit is needed to fix up the Ammo trucks damaged tyres, once these repaired, it’s just a case of driving it away before anyone else gets there.

Remember that Ammo truck is a highly prized mission, especially for those with an Armed Helicopter or armoured vehicle, getting hold of an Ammo truck for these people will enable them to Re-Arm and believe me there’s nothing worse than a Heli or Armour pouring Rockets and Grenades onto you in battle.

If by chance you don’t have a repair kit when you spot this mission, but still want to complete it, you have two other options :

  1. Ambush – This is just a case of either waiting for someone else to repair it or killing people heading to it and using their repair kits.
  2. Towing – This requires that you have either an Off-Road, a Truck or a Zemack, as all three of these will be able to tow the Ammo truck away.

Downed Helicopter

Downed Helicopter

The “Downed Helicopter” Mission:

For this mission you only need a Fuel can/fuel truck and an experienced pilot

Fuel cans can be found in buildings in towns or bought from gun stores, can also be found at “Capture the Base” missions

These are needed to refuel the heli, once it’s been refueled; it’s just a case of getting your pilot in and him making a clean get away, while you give cover.

I’d personally take along some smoke grenades as well, as these can be thrown around the vehicle to give cover to whoever has the unfortunate job of refuelling, as this tends to leave you out in the open and a priority target for the other players, because if you can’t get the heli refueled you won’t be able to get in it and take off.

The reason I suggest you get an experienced pilot is because the amount of times I’ve seen these missions fail because the pilot can’t actually fly and ends up crashing moments after take-off, usually killing his whole Squad/Group at the same time

Again if by chance you don’t have a fuel can when you spot this mission, but still want to complete it, you have one other option:

  1. Ambush – This is just a case of either waiting for someone else to refuel it or killing people heading to it and using their fuel cans.

Just a last tip on this particular Mission, it’s always handy to have repair kit with you, as your heli may well take damage from enemy fire while you’re refuelling it and what’s the point of a refueled heli if you can’t take off in it because it’s damaged.

Armed Hunter with HMG

Armed Hunter with HMG

The “Capture Vehicle” Mission:

This mission is much the same as the “Downed Helicopter” missions, all you really need is a fuel can.

Fuel cans can be found in buildings in towns or bought from gun stores, can also be found at “Capture the Base” missions

It’s just a case of refuelling the armoured vehicle and driving it away, again smoke can come in very handy on this mission for providing cover while refuelling.

Once again if you don’t have fuel can you have 2 other options for completing the mission:

  1. Ambush – This is just a case of either waiting for someone else to repair it or killing people heading to it and using their repair kits.
  2. Towing – This requires that you have either an Off-Road, a Truck or a Zemack, as all three of these will be able to tow the Ammo truck away.

The “Diving Zone” Mission

For this you’ll need a Boat, a Re-breather and a Wet Suit

Boats are located randomly along the coastline, you’ll find them usually when you don’t need them, so it’s always worth making note of any boats locations you do find for future reference.

Re-breathers and Wet Suits, these can on occasion be found in random vehicles and the odd weapons crate/geocache, but can generally be bought in Gun Stores.

Once you’ve acquired all of these it’s then just a case of getting in the boat and heading to the diving zone, once there, turn the boat’s engine off, slip off the side of the boat and start searching the sea bottom for a crate that looks very much like a geocache, then it’s a case of grabbing it and loading it into your boat and heading back to the shore.

The “Capture the Base” Mission

For this you’ll just need a gun and some team mates, or if your good just you.

This mission just involved you killing all the AI that are at the Capture the Base and then getting in there and taking the crate away.

It’s a fairly simple mission, though it can turn into a nightmare if there are more than just your group attacking it.

My final bit of advice on these missions except maybe the diving one, is don’t all go running into the mission when it’s complete, leave a couple of your group/team on over watch, as you really don’t want to be surprised while your looting, the people on over watch can warn their team mates of any approaching danger and can if the worst happens and all those looting are killed, they can at least come down and revive you when the enemy leave, hell they might even be able to avenge you while your body’s are being looted.

I’ve also missed a Mission the “Underwater Wreck”, this is due to me not having actually done that one yet, but once I have I’ll be sure to post about it.

Anyway I hope those of you who are playing Arma 3 Wasteland are enjoying my Tips and Tricks and please feel free to comment or post any tips that you might have yourself.
